WhatsApp is rolling out a brand-new artificial intelligence feature called “Writing Help”, designed to make your messages sound smarter, funnier, or more professional. The feature was announced on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, by Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp. With Writing Help, users can now rephrase, proofread, or adjust the tone of their texts directly inside WhatsApp without relying on external tools like ChatGPT.

How Does Writing Help Work?

The new feature makes use of Meta’s Private Processing technology, which ensures that your original message and the AI-suggested rewrites remain private. In simple words, Meta or WhatsApp cannot read your chats even if you use this feature.

Users can choose from different tones such as professional, funny, supportive, or simple rephrased versions of their messages.

Example of the AI in Action

WhatsApp shared a fun demo of the new tool. A user typed:

“Please don’t leave dirty socks on the sofa.”

The AI-generated “desi-style” rewrites included:

  • “Arre yaar, sofa ko kabristan mat banao in socks ka.”
  • “Breaking news: Socks spotted chilling like netas on election day. Please move them.”
  • “Oye sock ninja, kapdon ki tokri udhar hai, sofa nahi!”

This shows how Writing Help can instantly turn a boring daily reminder into a quirky, relatable message.

Why This Matters for Users

With the launch of Writing Help, WhatsApp is encouraging people to use its in-app AI tools instead of switching to external apps. The idea is to make communication more engaging while still keeping conversations secure.

However, not everyone may like the idea. While AI might be handy for emails or work messages, some users may prefer authentic and personal chats with family and friends. After all, sending your grandmother an AI-rewritten message might not feel natural.

How to Use Writing Help

Users can access the feature easily. While drafting a message in WhatsApp, a new pencil icon will appear. Tapping it will allow users to see AI-generated suggestions and pick the version they like.

The Bigger Tech Picture

The announcement came on the same day as TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 updates, where big names like Netflix, ElevenLabs, Wayve, Sequoia Capital, and Elad Gil joined the agenda. The event, scheduled in San Francisco from October 27-29, 2025, marks the 20th anniversary of TechCrunch Disrupt, promising insights that could help startups grow.
