Fidias Panayiotou, known for his vlogs, comedy, and epic pranks, burst onto the scene with an unforgettable hug shared with none other than billionaire Elon Musk. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg in his adventure-filled journey.

While Fidias was busy watching the YouTube videos of MrBeast, he realized something special—YouTube wasn’t just a platform for enjoyment; it could be turned into a scalable business. Inspired, he launched his YouTube channel, starting in English, despite Greek being his first language. The hate comments poured in due to his language barrier, but Fidias persisted.

Living in Cyprus, his YouTube videos struggled, and the absence of a local YouTube community left him feeling isolated. In 2021, he decided to take things seriously and booked a one-way ticket to Los Angeles, thanks to an O-1 (talent) visa.

Fidias’s story truly took off when he met Airrack, one of America’s biggest YouTubers, on his very first day in the United States. Collaborations followed, and Fidias got a crash course in YouTube mastery. He didn’t stop there; he befriended many successful YouTubers, including his idol, MrBeast. He watched, he read, he learned.

It took three years of sheer determination for Fidias to understand the art of making engaging YouTube videos. Once he cracked the code, his subscriber count soared from 20,000 to an impressive 110,000 in just a few months. Then came the video that launched his YouTube career—’I Shook The Top 100 YouTuber’s Hands,’ with over 7 million views as of May 2023.

Initially, he explored pranks but quickly realized it wasn’t sustainable. He pivoted to challenges, drawing inspiration from the extreme performer David Blaine. The momentum shifted in his favor, and his channel exploded with millions of views.

Now, fasten your seatbelts because Fidias Panayiotou isn’t just about YouTube fame. In a recent, and rather controversial, video titled “How To Sneak Into The Indian Metro,” Fidias attempted a jaw-dropping stunt in the Bengaluru Metro. He approached commuters, challenging the idea of entering the metro station without a valid ticket. Despite their skepticism, Fidias leaped over the barriers and accessed the platform without a ticket or token.

Undeterred, he repeated the stunt at another station, hopping over the ticket-checking counter in the absence of security personnel. The video quickly gained traction online, sparking outrage among viewers who accused Panayiotou of theft from the city.

But this is the same guy who camped outside SpaceX’s Starbase facility, publishing daily videos to get Elon Musk’s attention. After a rollercoaster of hope and disappointment, Elon Musk finally agreed to the hug. Fidias’s video ‘I Hugged The World’s Top 100 Celebrities,’ premiered on January 23, 2023, and has over 8 million views as of May 2023.

Fidias Panayiotou now calls Los Angeles, California, home. He’s a vegetarian, a perfectionist, an audiobook enthusiast (he recommends Audible), and a fan of Tony Robbins. His mentor? Argyris Argyrou, the founder of ‘Foody.’

Kavya Karnatac has been creating interesting content around Indian geography and culture for a while now, and the highlight of her social media career has been the National Creator award that she was honoured with earlier this year. The creator acknowledges that she charges around Rs 3 lakh per brand collab, and has explained why in detail in a LinkedIn post. Last week, however, she posted a detailed account of why she turned down a Rs 3.6 lakh deal that was part of ‘Ambani’s PR activation’.

Kavya says she usually does 6 branded pieces out of 30 pieces of original content she puts out every month. She says that she was approached to ‘discuss how Ambani’s wedding would boost the Indian economy’. The offer far exceeded her usual rate of around Rs 3 lakh, and the creator’s parents too urged her to accept it. However, Kavya Karnatac, who boasts 1.6 million Instagram followers and 700K YouTube subscribers, declined the lucrative offer. Her reasons?

‘I said no to the Ambani wedding’

She didn’t want to be part of an ‘overwhelming crowd promoting the same narrative’ (if you have been bombarded with Ambani wedding content this past week, you now know where most of it was coming from). She says she didn’t want to dilute her own brand’s uniqueness. Quite rightly, Kavya pointed out that audiences can discern between paid and organic content, and she wanted to retain her audience’s trust in her. A Tata Institute of Social Sciences alumnus, Kavya says she believes in strong ethics, and the Ambani wedding that conformed to all conventions of caste, class, gender and religion, would have been misleading to her followers who admire her values.

In her post, Kavya Karnatac has admitted that saying no to such deals can be challenging and that she could do so because she is at a stage in her career that allows her to make such choices. In the earlier post where she explains her charges for brand collabs, Kavya said she has a team of 10 persons she has to maintain, and that she charges a premium for her content to maintain value in the creative industry, and to enable young creators to make a living out of it. Apart from brands like The Coca Cola company, ITC and Google, Kavya acknowledges that she has done collabs for Vantara, the Ambani venture in Gujarat. She however said she did so since the project aligned with her values.

Do you think we will get to see Kavya Karnatac being approached for any venture that’s promoted by the Ambanis henceforth?
