India’s gaming industry is growing, but can creating games become a sustainable career? A new report on Roblox’s creator economy explores how Indian developers and digital artists are earning through games, virtual fashion and other digital products. It estimates that Roblox-linked activity contributed ₹123.9 crore to India’s GDP between 2020 and 2025. The report, prepared by Access Partnership for Roblox, also highlights the jobs and business opportunities emerging around the platform. However, while creator participation and earnings are rising, the findings also point to a gap between India’s massive gaming audience and the number of creators who qualify for payouts.

Roblox Creator Earnings in India Are Growing

India has more than 500 million gamers, making it the world’s second-largest gaming market, according to the report. The country’s video game industry revenue is projected to rise from ₹6,300 crore in 2025 to ₹9,200 crore by 2028. Roblox has also recorded significant growth in India. According to the report, its daily active users in the country grew by an average of 76% annually between 2020 and 2025. Meanwhile, the number of Indian creators eligible to receive payouts increased by 96% annually, reaching 250 in 2025.

Total payouts to Indian creators also grew by 72% annually during the period. Among surveyed creators who publish across multiple platforms, Roblox accounted for 61% of their total creator earnings. These figures point to growing opportunities for creators. However, the number of payout-eligible Indian creators remains small compared with the country’s wider gaming audience. The report does not establish how many aspiring developers earn consistently or make a full-time living through Roblox.

Can Beginners Make Games on Roblox?

One factor driving interest in Roblox is its accessible game-development environment. The platform provides tools that allow users to create interactive experiences, even if they have limited prior coding experience. In the report’s survey, 94% of Indian creators said they could build games on Roblox with little previous experience. Another 91% found its tools and learning resources helpful. Many respondents said they learned through the platform’s community and YouTube tutorials.

These findings suggest that aspiring developers can begin learning game design without necessarily having extensive technical training. However, learning to create a game and earning money from it are two different challenges. Turning a project into a sustainable business also requires attracting players, retaining audiences and generating revenue. The report was prepared by Access Partnership for Roblox. Roblox supplied creator payment data, while Access Partnership produced the economic impact estimates and conclusions.

Indian Roblox Creators Are Reaching Global Audiences

Roblox also gives Indian creators access to players beyond the domestic market. According to the report, 92% of surveyed creators said the platform helped their games reach international audiences. Overseas players accounted for an average of 52% of daily users and 55% of revenue among the surveyed creators. The United States, the United Kingdom and Japan were identified as key international markets.

Bengaluru-based Small World Games illustrates how a Roblox project can grow into a larger business. Founded by Zankhit Chawda, the studio developed from a spare bedroom into a company with around 20 employees. The report states that its game Death Ball has recorded more than 1.6 billion visits, while Racket Rivals has surpassed 560 million visits. These figures measure visits rather than unique players and do not indicate the games’ revenue or profitability. Nevertheless, they highlight the potential reach of games developed by Indian studios.

Virtual Fashion Is Creating Another Business Opportunity

Game development is not the only way creators can build businesses on Roblox. The platform also supports digital products, including virtual clothing and accessories, creating opportunities for artists and designers. New Delhi-based entrepreneur Arjun Goel discovered Roblox during the COVID-19 lockdown. Despite his background in theatre, he taught himself 3D design and went on to build Meta Fashion, a digital fashion business.

According to the report, Meta Fashion has sold more than 2.5 million virtual items and built a community of over 25,000 members. The business employs five full-time staff members and also collaborates with freelance artists. His journey illustrates how creators can use their artistic skills to explore opportunities in virtual commerce. It also shows how the Roblox ecosystem can support roles beyond programming, including 3D modelling, digital fashion and creative production.

Roblox Work Is Also Opening Doors to Jobs

The report highlights career opportunities extending beyond direct earnings from games and digital products. Among surveyed Indian creators, 91% said their work on Roblox had helped them secure job offers, freelance projects or other business opportunities. Roblox-related work can involve several transferable skills, including game design, 3D modelling, digital asset creation and project development. These skills may also be relevant to other areas of the gaming and digital media industries. However, the survey does not specify how many respondents secured long-term employment or stable income. The findings indicate that creators see professional value in their platform experience, but they do not establish that Roblox work consistently leads to full-time careers.

Roblox’s Economic Impact on India

Beyond individual creators and studios, the report estimates that Roblox-linked creator activity contributed ₹123.9 crore to India’s GDP between 2020 and 2025. It also estimates that this activity supported approximately 510 full-time-equivalent jobs across the economy in 2025. These estimates relate specifically to Roblox-linked activity and should not be confused with the overall contribution of India’s gaming industry.

For aspiring creators, the platform offers an entry point into game development, digital design and virtual commerce. Yet the growing user base and rising payouts do not guarantee financial success for every developer. The long-term opportunity will depend on whether creators can build experiences that attract and retain players, develop marketable skills and establish reliable income streams. Roblox may offer a starting point, but turning that opportunity into a sustainable career requires more than simply making a game.
