Why Is Pranit More Facing Backlash?
Pranit More recently found himself under fire after a crowdwork clip from one of his stand-up shows began circulating widely on social media. The criticism was not aimed at a joke made by More himself. Instead, it focused on his reaction to a comment made by an audience member during a live interaction. In the now-viral clip, a man narrated a story about a date and made a remark that many viewers described as offensive and misogynistic. While the audience laughed at the comment, More was also seen laughing along. Later, he referred to the interaction as a “peak Gurgaon moment.” As the clip gained traction online, many users argued that the comedian should have challenged the remark rather than treating it as a joke.
What Happened In The Viral Crowdwork Clip?
The controversy began during a crowdwork segment, a style of stand-up comedy where performers interact directly with audience members and build humour from spontaneous conversations. In the clip, an audience member recalled taking a woman on a date where the two reportedly had chicken biryani costing around ₹360-370. According to the man, when the woman later asked him to drop her home, he joked that since he had already spent money on the date, he intended to “recover” the amount.

The remark drew laughter from sections of the audience and from More himself. However, many viewers online felt the comment implied an inappropriate expectation in exchange for paying for a meal. This led to criticism of both the audience member’s statement and the comedian’s reaction. As screenshots and clips continued to circulate, the incident quickly became a talking point across social media platforms.
What Did Pranit More Say In His Apology?
Following the backlash, More addressed the controversy through an Instagram Story and accepted responsibility for how he handled the moment. He clarified that the audience member’s views did not reflect his own and admitted that he should have reacted differently.
“I’ve seen the criticism regarding a recent crowdwork clip. The comments made by the audience members do not reflect my views. Looking back, I should have challenged the remark instead of laughing and moving on. That was a lapse in judgment on my part,” he wrote.

The comedian further stated that while crowdwork often involves reacting in real time, that should not be used as an excuse. More also revealed that the clip had been removed from all platforms. He explained that he did not want to amplify or normalise the views expressed during the interaction.
