The sudden killing of Mad Sandhu, the popular Punjabi social media creator and makeup artist, has left his followers and the regional creator community in shock. Sandhu, whose full name was Madhusudan Sandhu, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on October 3 in Amritsar. Police said two motorcycle-borne men opened fire at him on Loharka Road around 6 pm as he waited near a car-wash centre for his vehicle. He suffered multiple bullet injuries and died while being taken to a private hospital. Police have said they have leads and are examining CCTV footage and other evidence. The motive behind the killing has not been established.  But as the investigation continues, Sandhu’s digital footprint has also brought renewed attention to the person behind the social media name.

Who Was Mad Sandhu?

On Instagram, Sandhu described himself as a makeup artist, entrepreneur, artist and influencer.

His account @its_madsandhuofficial had around 239,000 followers, according to the profile information available before his death. He is also the founder of Mane Lane Unisex Salon and connected his work to makeup and beauty.

His content went well beyond makeup tutorials.

Sandhu posted fashion, beauty, lifestyle content, vlogs, memes, personal videos and social commentary. He was known for an expressive style and for speaking openly about subjects including gender expression, identity and his own experiences. Multiple reports have described him as an LGBTQ+ creator who faced trolling and criticism online but continued to maintain a visible presence.

That mix made him recognisable within Punjab’s digital creator community.

From Styling To Makeup And Content Creation

Sandhu’s career had several chapters before he became a social media personality.

According to reports, he worked as a stylist and assistant costume designer on projects in Punjab and Mumbai before moving deeper into makeup, modelling and entertainment. He later established himself as a makeup artist and entrepreneur in Amritsar.

He founded Mane Lane Unisex Salon and also worked in beauty training. His courses covered professional bridal makeup and self-makeup. His work later expanded into entertainment and digital media. He appeared in the Punjabi film Oye Bhole Oye and worked on other entertainment projects. Meanwhile, his social media presence continued to grow.

His Instagram Was Built Around More Than Beauty

The account Mad Sandhu built was not simply a professional portfolio.

His reels showed a creator comfortable moving between makeup, fashion, personal style, humour and everyday life.

He also used his platform to talk about subjects that were more personal and, at times, controversial.

That openness became part of his identity online.

For many followers, Sandhu represented a creator who was willing to present himself without trying to fit into conventional expectations of masculinity or beauty.

That visibility also came with criticism.

The Controversy That Had Put Him In The Spotlight Earlier This Year

Months before his death, Sandhu became involved in a public controversy involving Nihang jathedar Manpreet Singh Khalsa.

The dispute centred on some of Sandhu’s social media content, clothing and older videos. The Nihang side objected to material it said could negatively influence Punjab’s culture and youth and warned Sandhu against repeating what it considered objectionable content.

Sandhu later said he had changed and stopped repeating his past mistakes. He also reportedly said that people were resharing some of his older videos to create fresh controversy. Authorities are now examining the controversy as part of the wider circumstances surrounding his killing. However, police have not established a connection between the earlier dispute and the shooting. Authorities are investigating multiple angles to determine the motive.

That distinction is important as speculation continues online.

He Had Built A Significant Audience Despite The Backlash

Sandhu’s popularity was not limited to Instagram.

Reports describe him as a familiar face across Punjabi digital media, with appearances on podcasts and discussions around makeup artistry, the film industry, fashion, gender and personal experiences.

His content also attracted criticism, including homophobic abuse and comments about his appearance and fashion choices.

Yet he continued creating.

That consistency helped him build an audience of more than 200,000 followers, turning what began as a beauty and fashion presence into a broader creator identity.

His Business Was Another Part Of His Journey

Away from social media, Sandhu was building a business in the beauty industry.

His Mane Lane Unisex Salon in Amritsar became part of his professional identity, while his makeup work gave him a career beyond influencer marketing.

This is an important part of his story because Sandhu was not only an influencer.

He had built himself across several creative industries — styling, makeup, fashion, entertainment, entrepreneurship and social media.

His Instagram bio reflected that combination: MUA, entrepreneur, artist and influencer.

His Final Posts Are Now Being Viewed Differently

Sandhu continued posting on social media shortly before his death.

Reports noted that one of his final Instagram posts was a lip-sync video to G Khan’s “Mahi Milade”, shared only hours before he was killed.

Like much of his content, it was a personal and informal post rather than a statement about his career.

After his death, however, fans began revisiting his videos and photographs, turning his social media page into a record of the personality they had followed.

What Happened In Amritsar?

According to police, Sandhu had given his car for washing and was waiting near the facility on Loharka Road when two men on a motorcycle allegedly approached and opened fire.

Reports indicate that two to three rounds were fired at close range. The attackers fled immediately. CCTV footage is being examined as investigators work to identify them.

A disturbing video showing Sandhu injured on the road circulated online after the shooting. Police recovered empty shells from the scene and formed teams to trace the attackers.

As of the latest reports, the identity of the attackers and the motive remain under investigation.

A Creator Whose Work Refused To Fit One Box

Mad Sandhu’s story was never limited to one profession or one kind of content.

He moved from styling to makeup, from beauty to entrepreneurship, and from entertainment to social media.

His digital presence mixed glamour with personal experiences and conversations around identity and social expectations.

That made him a visible and, at times, polarising personality.

But it also made him part of a new generation of regional creators who are building audiences without depending entirely on traditional entertainment platforms.

His death has now brought renewed attention to that journey.

For his followers, Mad Sandhu was not simply the man behind a viral reel or a makeup look.

He was a beauty professional, entrepreneur, artist, performer and digital creator who built an audience by being visibly himself.

The circumstances of his killing remain a matter for the investigation. Until authorities establish a motive, the earlier controversies around his content should not be presented as an explanation for his death.

What remains clear is the scale of the loss for Punjab’s digital community and the sudden end of a creator whose career had already crossed several worlds.
