Why Are People Questioning The Protest’s Funding?

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been staging protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over examination-related issues. As a result, it is facing growing scrutiny on social media. This scrutiny is not just over its demands. Instead, it is also about how the protest is being financed. Several posts on X (formerly Twitter) claim that sustaining the demonstration for over a week would require significant spending on food, water, tents, sound systems, sanitation, and other logistics. Consequently, these claims have fueled speculation about whether the movement is receiving financial backing from political parties, outside organizations, or private donors.

What Is The ₹21 Lakh Estimate Based On?

The debate gained traction after viral posts attempted to calculate the daily expenses of the protest. According to these estimates, around 150 people remain at the protest site throughout the day. Additionally, attendance reportedly rises to nearly 300 during meal times. Based on those assumptions, social media users estimated spending on breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinking water, tents, microphones, sanitation, and other logistical arrangements.

Using those figures, the estimated daily cost was calculated at approximately ₹2.64 lakh. That would take the total expenditure for eight days to roughly ₹21.16 lakh. However, it is important to note that these calculations are not independently verified. They are based on assumptions made by users on social media rather than official financial records.

Who Is Mohammed Junaid And Why Is He Being Mentioned?

Much of the online discussion has centered around Mohammed Junaid, a volunteer associated with the protest. He has been seen distributing food, water, juice, and snacks to demonstrators.

Supporters have praised his efforts in helping sustain the protest. However, critics have questioned how such supplies are being funded over several consecutive days. Social media users have also pointed out that Junaid reportedly runs a mobile repair shop. As a result, some question whether individual volunteers alone could finance the operation. No evidence has been presented publicly to establish that Junaid is personally funding the protest.

Social Media Alleges Political And External Funding

The funding debate has intensified after several social media users alleged that political parties, anti-government groups, or even foreign entities could be financially supporting the demonstrations. Posts making these claims have gone viral, with some describing the protests as politically motivated rather than purely student-led. However, no official evidence has been released to substantiate these allegations. Also, authorities have not issued any statement confirming such claims.

What Has The CJP Said?

According to supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party, the protest is being sustained through public contributions, volunteers, and donations from supporters. As of now, the organization has not publicly released detailed financial records or a donor list.

With no official disclosure available and no government findings on the source of funding, the debate continues largely on social media. In this environment, speculation has outpaced verified information.
