The account Indians, followed by more than 9.4 million people, can no longer be accessed domestically. Neither Meta nor the page administrators have publicly explained why. In the absence of official communication, social media has rushed to fill the information gap with theories, assumptions and political narratives.

Some users claimed similar restrictions have previously resulted from private legal complaints rather than direct government intervention. One Reddit user even alleged their own city-themed account became inaccessible after someone challenged its use of a locality’s name.
These remain individual experiences, not evidence explaining what happened to the Indians page.
Speculation Is Filling the Information Vacuum
Another section of users believes the timing is not coincidental.
Some pointed to the page’s recent posts discussing NEET and ethanol-blended petrol, suggesting the account may have attracted greater scrutiny.
At present, however, there is no official evidence connecting those posts to the current restriction.
That distinction matters.
Social media conversations often transform assumptions into accepted facts long before official information emerges. Responsible reporting requires separating public speculation from verified evidence.
This Comes Amid Growing Scrutiny of Big Tech
The development also arrives during a period of heightened regulatory attention towards major technology platforms.
In recent weeks alone, the Indian government has sought explanations from Meta over alleged child sexual abuse advertisements on Instagram. It has questioned WhatsApp’s username rollout over impersonation risks. Telegram has also been asked to strengthen proactive anti-piracy measures.
Those actions reflected a broader push towards platform accountability.
Unlike those cases, however, no public explanation currently exists regarding the restriction of the Indians account.
What This Means for Creators
For creators, the uncertainty may prove more concerning than the restriction itself.
Digital businesses today depend heavily on platforms. Millions of followers can represent years of work, advertising partnerships and audience trust.
When a high-profile account becomes unavailable without explanation, creators inevitably ask whether similar action could affect them—and whether they would understand why.
