Vir Das on bagging his first-ever action film, says ‘The thrill of stepping into the action genre is a whole new adventure’

The Emmy award-winning stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das likes to challenge and explore himself by attempting new genres.

Vir Das has entertained with his impeccable comedy however this time the actor is gearing up for his first-ever action film.

Yes, Vir Das, who has also been a part of several films, will soon be a part of an adrenaline-pumping action film.

Opening up about the project, Vir said, “I’ve always believed in challenging myself and exploring new horizons. Comedy will always be my first love, but the thrill of stepping into the action genre is a whole new adventure. The prep is intense, and I am diving headfirst into this exciting project. I can’t wait to bring something fresh and exhilarating to the audience.”

Reportedly, the untitled action entertainer is currently in its pre-production stage. Vir would be playing the lead role in the film, which is expected to go on floors in mid-2024.

Let us introduce you to Mumbai’s cop Amol Kamble who is full of energy and can impress anyone with his dance moves. The 40-year-old Amol is now being lovingly called ‘Mumbai’s dancing cop’. He is a police naik in Mumbai police.

The livewire Amol Kamble has two sides to his personality. When he is on duty, he is one obedient cop while off duty he showcases his dancing skills. Amol has become an internet star and his videos often go viral for his passion for dance.

His viral video on Chaleya

His previous popular dancing video was on the Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara starrer song Chaleya from the film Jawan. The video has garnered more than 6 million views.

When real cop met ‘Reel’ cop Ranveer Singh

He regularly posts videos of him dancing on the streets of Mumbai. However the icing on the cake was when he shot a video with Bollywood’s ‘Reel’ cop Ranveer Singh, who is known for his character Simmba. In the reel, Amol is seen featuring on the theme tunes of Simmba along with Ranveer.

Shares a stage with Farah Khan and Bharti Singh

He was called upon the stage of Umang 2022 on the song Zingaat with Farah Khan and comedian Bharti Singh. The celebs and other Mumbai police force present at the award function applauded him for his moves.

Amol’s encounter with TikTok sensation Noel Robinson

Recently Amol took the internet by storm after he performed on the streets of Mumbai with TikTok sensation Noel Robinson. In the skit video, Noel pretends to be a robber and snatches a mobile phone from an elderly man on a road. While escaping, he bumps into the Mumbai cop who directs him to return the phone to the man. Later, they are seen dancing to singer Rema’s chartbuster ‘Calm Down’.

About Amol Kamble

Kamble is currently posted at Naigaon Police Headquarters. A resident of Mahim, Amol joined the police force in 2004. He is pursuing his childhood dream of dancing besides serving for the Mumbai Police Department. Amol’s elder brother is a choreographer and professional dancer. As a youngster, he accompanied his brother to dance shows and performed as a background dancer.

His Instagram popularity!  

He was on TikTok and had almost 1 lakh followers. Due to the ban of the app, he then started posting random dance videos on Instagram and started getting noticed. His fan following is rising massively and he currently has 394K followers. His Instagram bio describes his personality perfectly. It reads, “Mumbai Police on field. Artist By ❤️. Desh ki seva ke liye Mai haazir. Dil ki seva ke liye Mera Dance haazir”. His work on social media has been well-recognised by media and entertainment fraternities.

In a growing trend, content creators/influencers are now taking the leap into acting, blending digital fame with traditional media. In the past, we have seen many popular social media stars like Kusha Kapila, Shehnaaz Gill, Dolly Singh, Viraj Ghelani, as well as YouTubers like Bhuvan Bam and CarryMinati amongst others making their acting debut on the big screen and OTT. These influencers have successfully leveraged their online fame to break into acting, demonstrating their versatility and broadening their career horizons.

Following the trend, here is a list of some more creators who are set to make their acting debut in 2024.

Orry

The first on the list is everyone’s favourite, party boy and the paparazzi’s muse Orhan Awatramani, better known as Orry. He became a phenomenon after featuring in Bigg Boss 17 and Koffee With Karan. He took the internet by surprise after he revealed that he charges Rs 25 lakhs for his famous hand pose. Orry has mentioned that he has around a dozen managers who take care of his life and professional commitments. Looks like Orry’s storm doesn’t seem to blow down as he is now gearing up for his acting debut. In a recent interview, he revealed that he will be seen in a low-budget independent film. He didn’t mention more details about the film but it is expected to be released soon.

Anjali Arora

Anjali Arora tasted fame after her dance videos went viral, followed by her participation in the reality show Lock Upp. With a significant social media following of 13.1M followers and being one of the most talked-about influencers, Anjali is making her acting debut with a big-budget film. She is roped in to play Goddess Sita in Abhishek Singh’s directorial Shri Ramayan Katha, marking a big milestone in her career.

Niharika NM

Popular digital content creator Niharika NM, who is recognized for her humorous content, is all set to make her film debut in Indian cinema with a Tamil film starring Atharvaa in the lead. Lyca Productions is producing the film directed by debutant director Akash Baskaran. Niharika NM also recently made her third appearance at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Karan Sonawane

Internet star Karan Sonawane, known as Focused Indian, is celebrated for his humour and relatability. He transitioned from theatre and stand-up comedy in 2014 to internet content creation in 2015, focusing on crafting entertaining and witty material. Karan is all set to make a big leap in his career with his acting debut in Bollywood film Blackout. The film will star actors Vikrant Massey, Mouni Roy, and Sunil Grover in the lead roles. The heist comedy is directed by Devang Bhavsar and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Niraj Kothari.

Saurabh Ghadge

Saurabh is one of the most well-known comedy influencers from Mumbai. His witty skits and relatable characters have garnered him millions of fans worldwide. Saurabh and Karan Sonawane’s combined comic videos often take viewers on a laughter riot. Their comic timings and engaging content make both of them unique. Along with Karan, even Saurabh is making his acting debut with Blackout. The film will premiere on 7 June at Jio Cinema.

Munawar Faruqui

Rapper, stand-up comedian, and reality show Lock Upp season 1 and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui, is marking his acting debut with the web series First Copy. During Eid, Munawar has announced about the series by sharing a teaser. The short teaser takes us back to 1999 when DVDs were a big trend. It is written and directed by Farhan P Zamma. The series is produced by Kurji Productions and co-produced by Salt Media. The release date and OTT platform of the show are yet to be announced.
