6 Emerging Micro Creators To Watch Out For This International Creators Day
Jawed Karim was just 26 when he shot a video at the San Diego zoo on April 23, 2005 and uploaded it to the fledgling streaming channel called YouTube of which he was co founder.
16 years later, the international community decided to mark April 23 as International Creators Day. Jawed has since grown. Literally. The Bangladeshi-German origin American software engineer and Internet entrepreneur personal YouTube channel now boasts 4.63 million followers and his iconic video has garnered 317 million views so far. Jawed has since moved on to bigger things. But his story is a reminder that small beginnings often make for great success stories.
The era of social content creators was launched by Jawed, and continues to grow. Millions of creators are leaving their 9-5s behind to pursue their passions full-time. Needless to say, the creator economy is booming!
On this special day, we take a look at upcoming Indian creators who are doing great work, we feel, but are still waiting for the spotlight to shine on them. Sakshi – The Slow Traveller
26 year old Sakshi from Guwahati believes in slow travel. And she takes you on picturesque journeys in the country’s north east with each of her well shot videos. She travels with friends, in groups or goes on solo trips, obviously enjoying herself. immensely on each journey, and managing to tempt you to do the same! The best part – she takes you to lesser known, un-touristy places which are breathtaking in their natural beauty. And introduces you to local cuisine. In the past, she has taken her followers along her Instagram journey to Varanasi as well, but the north east is her playground!
Amruta Mane – That girl on wheels
She calls herself a ‘business woman at the age of 21’. She’s a motorcycle coach, who started training women to ride scooters and bikes at a young age. And now is a mini celebrity herself, giving pep talks and conducting road safety sessions. Her vlogs are an inspiration to young women who want to scorch the roads. With their wheels but are held back by cultural obstacles. Happiest on her Enfield, she explores the country, capturing her travels on her Instagram.
Parinita Salian Crasta
Blogger Parinita Salian Crasta moved to Canada a few years ago, but her heart is firmly root in Mangalore. Even as she posts delectable pictures of spaghetti in mushroom sauce, sticky toffee puddings and vol-au-vents, she is worshipped by her followers for the traditional South Karnataka recipes that she unspools with painstaking care through her videos on Instagram. Imagine a young girl with eyes that sparkle with the spirit of two cultures. This is Dasom Her, or Luna Yogini as the world knows her – a captivating fusion of Korean heritage and an Indian soul. This popular Korean creator in India currently has 104K followers on Instagram and 95.5K subscribers on her YouTube channel. Since we love her content, we thought we’d share her story with you too!
From Korea to India
Dasom’s journey began in South Korea, but destiny had something far grander in store. At the tender age of five, she found herself on a plane to India with her mother, a yoga enthusiast who had been captivated by the magic of Indian philosophy. This wasn’t just a move; it was a leap of faith. Moreover, a decision fueled by love for a new land and its ancient wisdom.
Life, however, can be an unpredictable dance. Soon after arriving, Dasom’s world shifted when her father passed away. Her mother, ever the pillar of strength, decided to raise Dasom in the vibrant embrace of India. This decision proved to be the seed of Dasom’s extraordinary life.
India wasn’t foreign; it felt like home from the very start. The sights, sounds, and smells seeped into her soul. Here, she found solace and a way to express herself through the grace of classical dance forms like Bharatnatyam and Manipuri. Each movement became a conversation with her new reality. However, a way to weave her Korean spirit into the fabric of Indian culture.
Speaking Bengali Like A Native (& Some Hindi and Nagamese too)
But Dasom’s journey wasn’t limited to artistic expression. Her love for India went deeper. Luna Yogini dived headfirst into learning Bengali, the language that pulsed with the rhythm of her adopted home. This wasn’t just about communication; it was a way to connect with the soul of India. Her fluency, a testament to her dedication, became a bridge between cultures.

Life in Shantiniketan
Shantiniketan, the idyllic educational haven established by Rabindranath Tagore, became her next stop. Here, at Patha Bhavana, a Bengali medium school, Dasom blossomed. Nestled under the open sky, surrounded by whispering trees. Besides, she discovered a love for Sanskrit and a profound appreciation for nature’s nurturing embrace.
Later, her Master’s degree in Social Work took her beyond the familiar. Venturing into rural India, Dasom witnessed a life lived in harmony with nature. The villagers’ simplicity, their connection to the land, and their ability to find joy in the everyday resonated deeply with her. This experience became a precious gem in her treasure chest of life lessons. Furthermore, reminding her of the beauty that lies in living simply and cherishing the little things.
From Immigrant Child to Imminent Creator
Dasom’s story isn’t just about her; it’s a bridge between cultures. Having witnessed Korea’s growing fascination with India, from initial unfamiliarity to a burgeoning interest in yoga and Indian cuisine, she embodies the changing tides of cultural exchange.
