Instagram’s Blend: Share and Discover Reels With Friends in a New Way

Instagram has launched a new feature, Blend, to make your Reel experience even more fun and personal. Instead of sharing one Reel at a time with your friends, you can now build a shared feed of Reels right inside your Instagram chat.

What is Instagram Blend?

Instagram Blend is a new feature that lets two or more users create a private feed of Instagram Reels based on their activities. Think of it like a personalised playlist of Reels you and your friend(s) are likely to enjoy. It’s built with content that matches the videos you usually watch and engage with.

Blend lives within Instagram’s chat section, not the main feed. You won’t find it while scrolling through your Reels section. This feature is designed to make sharing Reels smoother, especially for people who often send funny or interesting Reels to each other through DMs or group chats.

How Does Blend Work?

To start using Blend, one person sends an invite to another person or group in an Instagram chat. The invitation has to be accepted for the Blend to become active. This ensures that both sides agree to join this shared content space.

After the Blend is created, Instagram starts updating this feed with Reels based on the activity of both users. You’ll be able to see who each Reel is suggested for. For example, if a science video is recommended because your friend watches similar content, it will show their name below the Reel. A meme will carry your name if it is added based on your preferences.

This shared space is not public, and only the people in the Blend can view it. It works in both one-on-one and group chats. Instagram also sends a notification when new Reels are added to the Blend feed, so you never miss an update.

How to Start a Blend on Instagram (Android & iOS)

To use the Blend feature, follow these simple steps:

• Step 1: Open Instagram and go to a chat—this can be either a one-on-one or group chat.
• Step 2: Look for the Blend icon on the top right corner of the chat screen.
• Step 3: Tap the icon and then tap on Invite.
• Step 4: Wait for the other person or group members to accept the Invite. Once accepted, the Blend is created.

How to View Your Blend Feed

Once the Blend is active, here’s how you can view it anytime:

• Step 1: Open Instagram and return to the same chat where the Blend was created.
• Step 2: Tap the Blend icon again in the top right corner.
• Step 3: You will now see a shared Reels feed with content recommended based on everyone’s viewing habits.
