The Traitors 2: Has the Show Lost Its Spark Before the Finale?

The Traitors works best when suspicion comes naturally, when a small lie, a strange reaction or an unexpected alliance can change the entire game. But as Season 2 moves closer to its finale, the balance that made the first season compelling appears to be weakening. The latest episodes, 7, 8 and 9, have increasingly leaned on dramatic twists and heightened moments, while much of the tension between contestants feels less organic. This may also explain why earlier criticism from contestants such as Urfi Javed and Apoorva Makhija about the season not matching its predecessor has resurfaced.

One of the strongest moments from the latest episodes came from Tanya, who finally made a decisive move.

Rather than relying on complicated theories, she focused on a detail in the letter given to the innocents. Her observation helped convince the table to unanimously vote out a traitor.

It was precisely the kind of moment the format needs: one sharp observation changing everyone’s understanding of the game.

The traitors are making themselves too obvious.

Season 2 started with four traitors, but several have struggled to maintain the secrecy the role demands.

Shahneel, Harman, Kullu and Krystle have repeatedly attracted suspicion, while the Circle of Shaq has also appeared less strategically effective than expected.

That is a significant contrast with Season 1, where the traitors often managed to manipulate the innocents into turning against each other.

Are the innocents playing an even weaker game?

The problem isn’t limited to the traitors.

While players such as Rida and Tanya have actively observed, questioned and connected clues, several others appear to have spent more time following the group or focusing on relationships and the atmosphere inside the palace.

With several sharper players already eliminated, the remaining contestants are increasingly being forced to figure out the strategy themselves.

For a show built around deception, however, style can only go so far.

The bigger problem with Season 2

The presence of celebrities such as Mallika Sherawat, Shalini Passi and Dalip Tahil brings recognisable personalities to the palace, but The Traitors demands more than screen presence.

Contestants need to read people, conceal their own intentions and challenge assumptions. When too many players follow the herd or reveal too much, the game naturally loses momentum.

That may be why the show has increasingly turned to elaborate twists, games and dramatic setups to maintain the stakes.

Can the finale bring the spark back?

There is still time for The Traitors 2 to recover. Fewer players mean every decision should carry greater weight, and the remaining contestants now have fewer people to hide behind.

But the central question remains: will the finale generate its own drama, or will the show have to manufacture it?

For a format built on deception and mind games, the best twist has always been a contestant making one unexpected move.
