Spill Games Bets on AI as India’s Gaming Industry Grows
Spill Games will use its new funding to scale successful mobile games, expand its portfolio and strengthen its AI technology.
Bengaluru-based mobile gaming startup Spill Games has raised $10.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Elevation Capital. Existing investors Centre Court Capital and PeerCapital also participated in the round. Founded in 2024, Spill Games develops free-to-play mobile games for global audiences. The company focuses on casual puzzles and hybrid-casual games, combining artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics and rapid experimentation to develop and scale titles. The fresh capital will help the company expand its game portfolio, scale successful titles, invest in user acquisition and strengthen its AI and technology capabilities. Spill Games also plans to expand its team selectively.
India’s Gaming Industry Is Growing Beyond Game Development
Spill Games is entering a market where gaming is becoming a significant part of India’s digital economy. A February 2026 government publication estimated that India had 488 million online gamers in 2026, including more than 110 million daily active players. It also highlighted the sector’s potential to create jobs across game development, design and other creative roles. As studios develop games for global audiences, opportunities are expanding beyond programmers and designers to include product management, marketing, analytics, community management and live operations.
Gaming Creators Are Building Careers Around Play
The gaming economy also extends beyond the companies making games. YouTube streamers, esports personalities and gaming creators earn through advertising, sponsorships, brand partnerships, subscriptions and other platform-specific monetisation features. This has opened a path for people to turn gaming skills and entertaining gameplay into content businesses. Gaming can also attract people who are unemployed, homemakers or looking for additional income, but playing games does not automatically generate money. Earnings depend on factors such as building an audience, securing sponsorships, meeting platform eligibility requirements and producing content consistently. For most people, creator income is uncertain and may take time to develop. Spill Games’ growth therefore sits within a wider ecosystem in which game studios, players and content creators all contribute to the industry’s expansion.
Who Founded Spill Games?
Spill Games was founded by Om Misra, Tapan Ranjan and Harsh Garg, who previously worked at PlaySimple Games. Their experience in mobile gaming informs the company’s focus on building games for international markets and developing a portfolio of commercially sustainable titles.
The founders are pursuing a model that prioritises testing game concepts before committing significant resources to them. The company develops multiple ideas, studies how players respond and invests further in titles that demonstrate promising engagement and commercial potential.
From Three Games to Six
Spill Games has expanded its portfolio from three games to six in less than three months, according to company information reported alongside the funding announcement. The company aims to identify games with scalable and profitable performance rather than depend on a single hit.
Its games follow a free-to-play model, generating revenue through advertising and in-app purchases. This approach allows players to access games without an upfront payment, while giving the studio opportunities to earn revenue through continued engagement.
However, the model also makes player retention important. Developers need to give users reasons to return while balancing advertising, purchases and the overall playing experience.
How AI and Compass Fit Into Its Strategy
Spill Games uses AI, proprietary technology and data to speed up game development and improve decision-making. Its internal platform, called Compass, brings together analytics, player retention, monetisation and live operations.
These capabilities help the company track how players interact with its games and assess which titles deserve further investment. Rather than relying only on initial downloads, the studio can evaluate engagement and revenue performance as games develop.
The company believes this approach can help a relatively small team develop and test games faster than traditional methods. Its strategy centres on rapid experimentation, using player response to guide product decisions and scaling games that show promising results.
Where Will the New Funding Go?
The $10.5 million Series A round will support Spill Games’ next stage of growth. Its priorities include scaling successful titles, developing new games, strengthening AI capabilities, acquiring users and selectively hiring talent.
The funding follows a $3.1 million seed round in April 2026, led by Centre Court Capital and PeerCapital. Including the latest investment, the company has raised $13.6 million in disclosed funding across these two rounds.
With the new capital, Spill Games is betting on a system-driven approach to mobile gaming: develop ideas quickly, measure player response and concentrate resources on games with the strongest potential.
Its progress will depend on whether that approach can produce games that retain players and generate sustainable revenue across global markets.
