Meet the Faces Behind the Wheel: Jalaja and Ratheesh

The journey is captained by Jalaja, a homemaker from Ettumanoor in Kerala’s Kottayam district. For 19 years, she looked after her home, family, and kids while her husband Ratheesh worked as a truck driver.

But on their wedding anniversary, Jalaja made a surprising announcement. She told Ratheesh she wanted to travel across India with him, especially to the beautiful land of Kashmir. Her only condition? She would be the one driving.

Though she had held a heavy vehicle driving licence since 2018, Jalaja had never driven before. But with courage and determination, she took the wheel. Just 10 days later, they reached Kashmir. That trip became the turning point in their lives.

Social Media Fame: A Family That Drives Together

The couple runs a YouTube channel called Puthettu Travel Vlog, which now has over 5.66 lakh subscribers. On Instagram, they have more than 6.5 lakh followers.

Here are some heartfelt messages from fans:

  • “Watching your video for six months without understanding the language.”
  • “Best of all. Please come to Himachal Pradesh (Palampur), my hometown.”
  • “One day I will see you in person. It feels like watching my people who left me.”
  • “My wish will come true like this someday.”

Their journey is not just about driving; it’s about connection, emotion, and living a free-spirited life.

From Homemaker to Inspiration: The Woman Who Dared to Drive

Since February 2022, Jalaja has driven across 22 Indian states and union territories, including Ladakh. She has also travelled to Nepal and Bhutan. She is now inspiring other women in her family to do the same. Her daughter Devika and sister-in-law Soorya have also become truck drivers after watching Jalaja take on the roads. The family’s transport company, Puthettu Travels, now owns and operates 27 trucks.

A Simple Life on the Road

Jalaja and Ratheesh cook on a portable stove and take driving shifts. They often carry loads like onions, pineapples, rubber, and plywood to faraway places like Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Pune, and Nepal. They enjoy every moment of life on the road. Jalaja’s favourite trip so far? The journey to Nepal, which was inspired by the 1992 Mohanlal Malayalam film Yoddha.

Viral Caravan Trip Wins the Internet

The story of Jalaja is not just a travel tale. It’s a beautiful reminder that life begins where fear ends. With no prior driving experience, she set out to live her dream and brought her whole family along for the ride. With millions watching and cheering them on, the Puthettu Travel family proves that home isn’t a place, it’s wherever you park your caravan.
