India's Next Creator Economy Boom May Come From The Northeast, Says KlugKlug

Is India’s Next Creator Economy Boom Coming From The Northeast?

New insights from influencer marketing intelligence platform KlugKlug suggest that India’s next creator economy success story may not emerge from Mumbai, Delhi, or Bengaluru. Instead, it could be taking shape in the Northeast. As brands increasingly rely on data to identify influential voices online, KlugKlug’s latest findings indicate that creators from Northeast India are building some of the country’s most engaged digital communities, challenging long-held assumptions about reach, influence, and creator value.

What Is KlugKlug?

KlugKlug is an influencer marketing intelligence platform that tracks creator performance across social media using data-driven insights. It helps brands and agencies analyse factors such as engagement rates, audience demographics, creator pricing, authenticity, and campaign suitability.

Its latest analysis has put the spotlight on a rapidly growing segment of India’s creator ecosystem: the Northeast.

What Did KlugKlug Find?

According to the platform, regional and vernacular content is now achieving reach comparable to English-language content. Strong local communities and culturally rooted storytelling are enabling creators to build audiences that extend well beyond their home states.

KlugKlug reports that more than 1.2 lakh creators from Northeast India have engagement rates above 4%, significantly outperforming the broader industry benchmark of 2–3%. At a time when engagement is increasingly viewed as a stronger indicator of influence than follower count alone, the findings point towards a major shift in how creators are evaluated.

What Makes Northeast Creators Stand Out In India’s Influencer Ecosystem?

The report also highlights that creators with relatively smaller follower bases are generating disproportionately high engagement and views.

Many Northeast creators are reaching audiences far beyond their existing communities, proving that content rooted in regional identity can resonate nationally. The findings challenge the assumption that only metro-based, English-speaking creators can build mass appeal. Authenticity, relatability, and community trust appear to be driving this growth.

According to KlugKlug’s estimates, a metro creator with around one lakh followers can charge anywhere between ₹80,000 and ₹1.2 lakh per Reel. Meanwhile, a creator from the Northeast with a similar audience size often charges between ₹25,000 and ₹50,000. The disparity raises important questions about how brands allocate budgets and whether regional creators are being fairly valued despite delivering strong performance.

Why Does This Matter?

For years, influencer marketing strategies have largely centred around creators from India’s biggest cities. But changing audience behaviour suggests that community connection and trust may matter more than geography. Regional creators are no longer confined to niche audiences. They are shaping trends, driving conversations, and building loyal followings that cut across language barriers.

If current trends continue, India’s next creator economy boom may not come from the metros. It may emerge from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Sikkim, where creators are proving that authenticity and engagement can rival, and sometimes surpass, the traditional advantages enjoyed by metro influencers.

The Northeast may no longer be an emerging market within India’s creator economy. It may already be defining its future.
