Uorfi Javed Can’t Film in Her Own House? Here’s What She Claims

Social media influencer Uorfi Javed has accused her housing society committee of targeting her with a new restriction that allegedly prevents her from filming content inside her own apartment. The controversy has also raised questions about where housing society rules end and a creator’s professional freedom begins.

Why Is Uorfi Javed Feuding With Her Housing Society?

Uorfi took to Instagram Stories to share her frustration over the alleged restriction. According to the influencer, the committee introduced the rule to harass her after she objected to an earlier regulation concerning visitors entering the building. The earlier rule reportedly required residents to seek permission from their landlords for guests arriving after 6 PM. Uorfi claimed that she had even approached the police over the issue. Sharing her latest complaint, she wrote, “Meri society committee ne ek rule nikala hai naya mujhe pareshan karne k liye – I can’t shoot any content in my own house!”

Why Does the Society Allegedly Have a Problem With Her Content?

According to Uorfi, the committee considers her social media shoots a form of commercial activity because they contribute to her online popularity. She also alleged that the situation escalated after she challenged the society’s guest-entry regulations. In another Instagram Story, she claimed that some committee members had asked her landlord to evict her. She further alleged that four to five men were now using restrictive measures to trouble her.

Uorfi also claimed that visitors entering her home face scrutiny if they are suspected of carrying cameras or filming equipment. However, these remain allegations shared by the influencer. The society committee’s response and the specific terms of the alleged restriction would be important in understanding the dispute fully.

Can a Housing Society Stop Someone From Creating Content at Home?

Uorfi questioned the legality of the alleged rule, arguing that what she does inside her own home should be her personal business. “Every other person shoots content in their house, how is this rule even legal? What I do in my own house is my business,” she wrote.

The question is particularly relevant for digital creators whose homes double as their workplaces. Unlike traditional offices or studios, creators often film reels, record videos, shoot brand collaborations and produce sponsored content from their personal spaces. However, whether a housing society can restrict such activity depends on the circumstances. Relevant factors may include the society’s registered rules, applicable housing laws, the nature and scale of the shoots, and whether the activity causes disturbances or affects common areas.

Monetising content does not automatically settle the legal question either way. The specific facts and applicable rules would need to be examined before drawing a conclusion about the society’s authority.

This Is Not the First Time Uorfi Has Raised Concerns

Uorfi has previously spoken about restrictions imposed by her housing society. In an earlier post on X, she reportedly claimed that guests were barred from entering the premises after 10 PM, including people visiting for professional commitments such as interviews and shoots. The latest allegations bring attention to a challenge that many digital creators may recognise: when content creation becomes a profession, the boundary between personal space and the workplace can become complicated.

For creators who depend on regular uploads and brand partnerships, restrictions on filming at home could potentially affect their work. At the same time, housing societies have rules governing residents and shared spaces, making the details of each dispute important. For now, Uorfi has publicly questioned the alleged restrictions. Further clarity on the society’s position and the exact rules involved would help establish the full picture.
