Ranveer Brar Opens Up on His Struggles: From Losing It All to Finding Strength in Simplicity
On a recent TRS podcast, chef and creator Ranveer Brar opened up about his toughest phase, being homeless in the US and the life lessons that keep him grounded.
Celebrity chef, television personality and creator Ranveer Brar recently opened up about one of the toughest chapters of his life during a candid conversation on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast. While he is now one of India’s most loved chefs, Brar revealed that there was a time when his journey was anything but glamorous.
Ranveer Brar’s Boston Dreams to Harsh Reality
Sharing his early struggles, Brar recalled how his restaurant in Boston faced a major setback after a fallout with his partners. The disagreement led to him being thrown out of the restaurant, leaving him with nowhere to go. For a brief period, he lived on the streets and slept on benches, unsure about what the next day would bring.
Despite the hardship, he described that phase as life-changing. It humbled him and helped him understand success in a new light. Those challenging days shaped his mindset, teaching him to never take fame or comfort for granted.
The Reality Behind Culinary Fame
During the chat, Ranveer Brar also reflected on how the culinary world is often romanticised by outsiders who see only the final, polished version of chefs like him and Vikas Khanna. He pointed out that while people admire the success, very few truly understand the grind, failures, and emotional battles behind it.
He said that in India, there’s often too much focus on “product marketing”, the final glossy result, rather than “journey marketing,” which tells the story of the hard work and setbacks behind every success. This, according to him, creates unrealistic expectations for young aspirants who dream of fame without seeing the challenges that come before it.
Staying Grounded: Lessons From His Grandfather
Even after achieving nationwide fame through television, cookbooks, and social media, Ranveer Brar continues to keep his feet firmly on the ground. In the podcast, he shared how he makes it a point to take an auto-rickshaw ride whenever he can. For him, it’s a small yet powerful reminder to stay connected with his roots.
He also spoke about a valuable lesson passed down from his grandfather, who taught him that no matter how successful one becomes, it’s essential to stay humble. Just like the land gives back only when nurtured, success remains stable only when one continues to work hard and stay grounded.
At home, Ranveer Brar considers his parents his biggest grounding force. Whenever fame feels overwhelming, simply looking at them helps him realign and find balance again.
