Punjabi social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, 28, died at PGIMER Chandigarh on August 26. She had spent 54 days battling severe burn injuries after an alleged attack in Punjab. According to her family’s complaint, Kaur was allegedly abducted from Chandigarh during the intervening night of July 3 and 4. She was reportedly taken to a forested area near Morinda, where she was allegedly assaulted and tied to a tree before being set on fire. Another acquaintance reportedly reached the location and helped extinguish the flames. Kaur was initially taken to a hospital in Morinda before being shifted to Max Hospital in Mohali. She was later admitted to PGIMER for specialised treatment.

The report found that Kaur was nearly seven weeks pregnant when she died. The revelation has added further questions to an investigation that is already facing scrutiny.

Two people named in the FIR

Kaur’s mother, Kanta Devi, filed a complaint following her daughter’s death. The FIR names two acquaintances, identified as Shubhi and Pinda.

They have been accused of kidnapping and murder. Police are attempting to trace and arrest them while investigating their alleged roles in the incident.

Police are also examining CCTV footage along the Chandigarh-Morinda route. Investigators are questioning people who knew Kaur to reconstruct what happened before and after the alleged attack.

Punjab Police have denied allegations of negligence. The police have maintained that the incident involved different jurisdictions and that necessary procedures were followed.

Manjeet’s online presence had made her a recognisable creator among her followers. Her death has now shifted attention from her content to a criminal investigation involving allegations of abduction, assault and murder.
