Pakistan Blocks Indian YouTube Channels and Indian Social Media Accounts Over Digital Disinformation

In a sweeping move aimed at “curbing digital disinformation,” Pakistan’s telecom authority has blocked access to 16 Indian YouTube news channels, 31 video links, and 32 websites. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) claimed the content was pushing false narratives that targeted Pakistan’s image and attempted to disrupt internal harmony.

While the PTA didn’t name the exact channels or clips, it indicated recent geopolitical developments triggered the move. According to its statement, the aim was to protect national security and prevent foreign influence from polluting Pakistan’s digital space.

The PTA also signalled that this isn’t just a one-off. It’s part of an ongoing crackdown to keep the country’s internet clean from misinformation, hate speech, and external manipulation. A spokesperson said efforts will continue to ensure social platforms aren’t used to mislead citizens or threaten Pakistan’s unity.

Creators and users were also urged to act responsibly—don’t share unverified or inflammatory content and stay cautious about what circulates online. The message was simple: if you’re found pushing propaganda, expect consequences.

Operation Sindoor Ignites Patriotism and Provocation, Online

The digital storm didn’t end there. Across the border, Indian social media users were fired up over Operation Sindoor, India’s recent anti-terror operation. The mission, carried out in a high-altitude zone, was hailed online as a bold strike against threats across the Line of Control.

From viral reels to trending hashtags, patriotism flooded timelines. Videos glorifying the armed forces, commentary from influencers, and user-generated content began flooding platforms. Some of this content, however, was seen as provocative by neighbouring audiences and may have played a role in Pakistan’s decision to clamp down on Indian channels.

The mood on Indian platforms was celebratory, but not without controversy. Claims, counterclaims, and heated arguments lit up comment sections and Twitter threads, turning a military operation into a full-blown social media spectacle.

Meanwhile, following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, India also took stricter control of its digital platforms. Authorities flagged and suspended multiple accounts, especially those suspected of being anonymous or operated from outside the country. Many of these accounts were accused of spreading panic or misinformation about the attack.

In addition to temporary blocks, several posts were taken down on national security grounds. Some were labelled misleading; others were removed to prevent communal disharmony. Indian users were urged to report suspicious activity and not share unverified videos or claims related to the attack.

This digital vigilance comes as both nations navigate a delicate political and security landscape, where social media is increasingly used as a weapon, not just a platform.
