Sushant Divgikar Opens Up About Medical Transition

Sushant Divgikar has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her life, revealing that she is currently around five months into hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as part of her medical transition. In an emotional conversation, Sushant spoke about the years of thought, medical consultations and personal reflection that went into making the decision. She also revealed that while she had initially planned to transition earlier, circumstances forced her to put the process on hold.

Sushant Divgikar On Deciding To Transition

Sushant revealed that transitioning was something she had been considering for a long time. Before beginning HRT, she consulted both doctors and mental health professionals to make sure she was making the decision for herself. The process involved consultations and assessments of her behavioural patterns, body and hormonal profile. Once her doctors gave her the go-ahead, Sushant felt ready to take the next step. She is now approximately five months into HRT and says that, so far, everything is going well.

Why Sushant Delayed Her Transition

Sushant had originally planned to transition in 2023. However, she decided to put the process on hold while working on the film Thank You For Coming. She also experienced health-related concerns during this period. According to Sushant, her liver and blood profile were not in good condition, and she was diagnosed with anaemia and iron deficiency. As a result, she had to pause the process and wait until she received medical clearance. When she eventually got the green signal from her doctors, Sushant said she was ecstatic and ready to move forward.

“By 2027, I’ll Be Comfortably And Fully Transitioned”

Sushant is now looking ahead with optimism and believes she will be comfortably and fully transitioned by 2027. She also revealed that she plans to change her name to Rani Sushant Divgikar. However, she intends to retain “Sushant” and her surname as part of her name.

For Sushant, keeping her birth name is deeply connected to her relationship with her parents, who named her Sushant. Meanwhile, “Rani” represents the love and acceptance she has received from people who have embraced her as their queen.

Coming To Terms With Her Own Timeline

Sushant also reflected on the feeling of wondering whether she should have transitioned earlier. She recalled discussing these thoughts with her psychiatrist, who helped her look at her journey differently. Rather than seeing her past as something she should regret, Sushant came to appreciate the experience of having lived through different stages of her identity. She also pointed to people who have transitioned later in life as examples of why age does not have to define someone’s journey. For Sushant, the focus is no longer on whether she should have done it sooner, but on embracing where she is now.

Her Voice Was One Of Her Biggest Concerns

As a singer and performer, Sushant also had concerns about whether transitioning would affect her voice. She specifically asked her doctor about the possibility of her voice changing. Sushant explained that she was relieved to learn that estrogen does not cause the same vocal changes associated with testosterone. Her voice remains an important part of her identity and career, and Sushant says she wants to continue performing for as long as possible.

Sushant’s Message To Those Considering Transition

Sushant’s biggest message to people contemplating transition is that there is no deadline for becoming yourself. She believes that people should not make such a deeply personal decision based on societal pressure or expectations. Instead, the decision should come from within and happen at a person’s own pace. Her message is simple: “It’s never too late.” As Sushant continues her transition journey, her story is ultimately about making a choice for herself without allowing age, public opinion or outside expectations to dictate when that choice should happen.
