National Handloom Day: Ankita Katuri Weaves Magic With Her Sarees

August 8 is National Handloom Day, celebrated for India’s handloom industry, which helps promote traditional artisans. Sustainable development and cultural conservation are the aims of National Handloom Day. It is celebrated to recognize the importance of the handloom wearers who effortlessly make beautiful handloom pieces.

The first National Handloom Day was flagged off by prime minister Narendra Modi on 7 August 2015.

This date is chosen to recall the Swadeshi Movement, which was part of the Indian freedom struggle and flagged off on 7 August 1905. This movement highlighted industries, especially those that featured India’s famed handloom wearers.

Ankita Katuri

Saree blogger Ankita Katuri is one of the torchbearers of this rich tradition.

Ankita Katuri, a Hyderabadi influencer and saree blogger, has a deep love for handloom sarees. Known in the social media world as Kitakaturi, she uses jewelry to add an extra layer of beauty to her sarees, creating a unique and stunning look. Her preference for fashion fusion is evident in her choice to pair a crop top or a skirt with a dazzling saree.

Ankita uses antique jewelry to accessorize simple cotton, khadi, and organza sarees, taking them to another level. She believes in using the clothes already in our wardrobe by styling and pairing them with different sarees.

Ankita effortlessly carries off all styles, showcasing her versatility. Her saree looks are a visual treat, each one unique and stunning. Whether it’s a pastel saree with a statement piece of jewelry or a rani pink zardozi saree with a golden piece, Ankita’s style is always on point.

Besides creating amazing content around sarees, Ankita is the co-founder of ‘The Smarketers’, a service based B2B marketing agency that helps tech companies worldwide drive growth initiatives, powered by Inbound and ABM – Account Based Marketing.

Ankita also has her own jewelry brand, ‘Shop Kita Katuri’, where thoughtful pieces of jewelry are designed and curated. Silver and brass jewelry is enhanced with ethnicity and tradition in her work.

On this National Handloom Day, let us celebrate handloom wearers who make beautiful pieces.
