Bibhas Nayak: A Budding Creator’s Life Ends, But He Lives Forever as a Hero
Bibhas Nayak, a 29-year-old HR professional and aspiring content creator, died while protecting two women from sexual assault in Karnataka.

Bibhas Nayak was not just an HR manager or a traveller, he was slowly building his space as a content creator. With over 1.5K followers, he had started sharing snippets of his bike journeys, faith-filled thoughts, and real stories from the places he visited. An incident occurred on March 6, when he bravely stood up to three attackers to protect two women from sexual assault. Overpowered and thrown into a canal, he lost his life, but his courage and kindness will always be remembered.
The Night That Took Him Away
In March, Bibhas was in Karnataka’s Koppal district, near the tourist destination of Hampi, on what seemed like another one of his solo explorations. While stargazing by a canal in Sanapur with a small group of fellow travellers, including a 27-year-old Israeli tourist, a man from the US, a local female homestay operator, and a man from Maharashtra, tragedy struck. Three local men approached and tried to assault the woman. While the others managed to flee, Bibhas stayed back. He resisted the attackers, trying to shield the women. In the struggle, he was overpowered and thrown into the canal. His body was recovered two days later, two kilometres from the site.
A Son’s Last Promise
Two days before the incident, Bibhas spoke to his mother. He had promised to visit her in Agra. The family is shattered.
“We can’t believe he is no more. All the family members are shocked by his untimely demise.”
The Influencer He Was Becoming
Though not known, Bibhas was just starting to grow his online presence. With over 1.5K followers, he had slowly begun sharing travel stories, lifestyle reflections, and short faith-based videos. He wanted to mix real-life travel experiences with Christian values and motivational content, something he felt the digital world needed more of.
According to his cousin Firoz Pradhan, “He had many content ideas. He wasn’t chasing fame. He wanted to use the internet to bring out real stories.” His phone, now with police as evidence, reportedly had multiple video drafts and notes of scripts for reels and YouTube shorts.
His Journey: Education, Faith, and Adventure
Bibhas attended the Stewart School in Bhubaneswar before moving to Chennai to study. He earned a BBA from Madras Christian College and completed his MBA from Mumbai. Despite working in the HR department of a reputed hospital in Delhi, his true passions were travelling and storytelling.
He had cycled across several Indian states and was deeply curious about cultures, local histories, and untouched destinations. He often travelled on shoestring budgets, relying on homestays, kind strangers, and his faith in God. “A travel enthusiast, he had travelled to many states on his bicycle,” his cousin shared.
Funeral and Final Goodbye
Bibhas’s funeral was held in G Udayagiri town, Kandhamal. The community gathered, heartbroken, to pay their last respects. Friends, relatives, church members, and even strangers who learned of his bravery lit candles and sang hymns in his honour.
A Call for Justice
The Karnataka police have arrested the suspects and are investigating the crime. The family, though devastated, is determined to ensure Bibhas’s sacrifice is not forgotten.
A Real-Life Hero
In a digital world where influencers chase clicks, Bibhas Nayak wanted to use social media to inspire and heal. He was building something sincere. His story may not have gone viral when he was alive, but in his final act, he showed the world what true courage looks like.
Bibhas did not just die protecting women. He died protecting the values we all claim to stand for, humanity, dignity, and justice.
