Geet: India's First Wheelchair-Bound Social Media Influencer

Geet faced a life-altering accident when she was just 10 years old. A devastating car crash left her paralysed from the waist down. But instead of letting it define her, Geet chose to shape a far more impactful and inspiring life than most non-disabled individuals dare to imagine.

Transition to Social Work

Driven to make a meaningful impact, Geet left her legal career and returned to India. She established an NGO in Delhi-NCR focused on empowering slum children and at-risk youth through storytelling, dance, and drama. Her initiatives aimed to instil positive values and encourage these children to envision a brighter future.

After the accident, she continued her education in the United States, completing high school and pushing herself through engineering and law school. Her academic brilliance led her to a successful career as a corporate lawyer, representing some of the biggest clients in the world, including Boeing, Microsoft, and Starbucks. However, even in the heart of professional stability, Geet felt a gnawing emptiness. She wanted to do more, to give back, to connect with real people, real stories, and real struggles.

Pursuit of Acting Dreams

Geet is a passionate admirer of Bollywood and aspired to become an actress. She participated in Zee TV’s “India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj,” where she advanced past the initial rounds but was eventually disqualified during the dance segment due to her physical limitations. Undeterred, she continued to hone her acting skills and worked on a music video addressing women’s issues.

Geet as a Social Media Influencer/Content Creator

She created her Facebook page in August 2015. It was simple at first: motivational videos, heartfelt messages, and raw glimpses into her journey. But something about her clicked with the masses. Within a year, she had over 1.5 million followers. Then came TikTok, and Geet exploded. She ran two TikTok accounts, one for motivational videos and another called “English with Geet”, which taught spoken English in a fun and accessible way.

What set her apart wasn’t just her wheelchair but how she used it. She didn’t hide it or make it the focal point. It was simply part of who she was. In her videos, she danced, acted, educated and entertained. These videos pulled millions of views, making Geet one of India’s most-watched influencers.

When TikTok was banned in India, it could have been a major setback. But Geet, being Geet, shifted seamlessly to Instagram and YouTube. Today, she manages multiple Instagram accounts, including @theofficialgeet, @englishwithgeet, @deargeet, and @thegeetshow. Each has its own flavour, from social commentary and satire to English lessons and motivational speeches. Her style is uniquely her own: honest, sometimes cheeky, always uplifting.
