Ankita Konwar Becomes First Assamese Woman who Completed The English Channel Relay

Ankita Konwar Achieves A Historic Milestone

Triathlete, author, and wellness entrepreneur Ankita Konwar has added another remarkable achievement to her journey by completing the English Channel relay in 13 hours and 5 minutes, becoming the first Assamese woman to accomplish the feat. Sharing the news on Instagram, Ankita revealed that the swim fulfilled a promise she had made to herself exactly a year ago. On her birthday last year, she had hiked to the English Channel swim start and told herself that one day she would swim across those waters. This year, she turned that dream into reality.

A Dream Realised During A Historic Year

The achievement carried even greater significance because it coincided with the 100th anniversary of Gertrude Ederle’s historic English Channel crossing. Ederle became the first woman to successfully swim across the Channel in 1926, inspiring generations of female swimmers around the world.

Reflecting on the moment, Ankita wrote that becoming the first Assamese woman to complete the crossing in a relay during this milestone year made the experience even more meaningful. She also shared that while this relay crossing is a huge milestone, she has now set herself an even bigger goal, a solo English Channel swim in the future.

From Learning To Swim To Crossing The Channel

One of the most inspiring parts of Ankita’s journey is how recently it began. She revealed that she only learned how to swim three years ago, making the achievement a testament to dedication, consistency, and perseverance. In her heartfelt post, she expressed pride in the person she has become, saying she was grateful for how far she had come since taking her first swimming lessons.

Thanking The People Behind The Journey

Ankita credited her success to the people who supported her throughout the process. She thanked her husband, Milind Soman, for standing by her through every step of the journey, calling him her biggest source of support. She also expressed gratitude to her coach Arjun Kawle for believing in her, especially during periods when injuries made training difficult, and thanked channel swimming mentor Srikaanth, who helped turn her dream into reality after she shared it with him last year. The post concluded with a heartfelt thank-you to her family, acknowledging the unwavering encouragement they provided throughout her journey.
