OpenAI to Open Its First Office in India: ChatGPT CEO Sam Altman Shares Big Plans

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced in a post on X that ChatGPT will open its first office in New Delhi later this year. He described the growth of AI in India as “amazing to watch,” noting that the number of ChatGPT users in the country has quadrupled in the past year. India is currently OpenAI’s second-largest market in terms of user numbers. The company has already established a legal entity in India and has started hiring a local team to manage operations.

Affordable Plans for Indian Users

ChatGPT has recently launched its most affordable monthly plan in India at $4.60. This move targets the country’s nearly one billion internet users, making advanced AI tools accessible to a wide audience.

Altman said, “The level of excitement and opportunity for AI in India is incredible.
