RJ Naved Returns To Radio City With ‘Prank You’

RJ Naved, one of India’s familiar voices in radio comedy, is returning to the airwaves with a new prank-based show, ‘Prank You’, on Radio City India. The station has promoted the programme as an exclusive addition to its line-up, bringing back the familiar mix of witty calls, comic characters and humorous interactions associated with Naved’s work.

What’s the Story Behind RJ Naved’s Movement?

The announcement raises questions about Naved’s radio career. Is he leaving Radio Mirchi altogether, or launching a new show alongside his other work? Radio City’s promotional messaging describes ‘Prank You’ as exclusive to the station. Coverage of the move also characterises it as a transition from Radio Mirchi to Radio City. However, available material does not confirm his departure terms or whether he has ended every association with Mirchi. What is clear is that Radio City will host his new show.

From ‘Mirchi Murga’ to ‘Prank You’

Naved became widely known for ‘Mirchi Murga’, the prank-call segment that helped establish his reputation for mimicry, comic timing and improvisation. His calls often involved adopting different personas to catch unsuspecting participants off guard, turning everyday conversations into comic situations.

A 2017 NDTV feature introduced him as the voice behind the segment and documented the range of characters he used in his calls.

His radio work has also included programmes such as ‘Dr Love’, ‘Sunset Samosa’ and ‘Total Filmy’. In an interview with Entrepreneur India, Naved recalled that his radio journey began after he won an RJ hunt and that he had previously worked in customer service.

With ‘Prank You’, the format returns to a familiar foundation: playful calls and on-air comedy. Radio City has teased the programme with the line “Radio pe shararatein phir se”, positioning the show as a return to prank-led entertainment.

A prankster whose classroom was everyday life

Naved’s comic instincts developed beyond the radio studio. In a July 2026 interview with Curly Tales, he said he never studied journalism or mass communication. Instead, he pursued a Bachelor of Business Studies.

He credited observing people, listening to conversations and understanding human behaviour as important parts of learning his craft. He also recalled playing pranks during his school and college years, including a wedding-night prank in which he and his friends hid around 60 to 70 alarm clocks, each set to ring at 15-minute intervals.

That emphasis on real-life behaviour has long been central to his style. His characters and calls draw on familiar voices, social situations and reactions, turning ordinary interactions into comedy.

From radio personality to digital creator

Naved’s career has also extended beyond traditional radio. His prank-based identity has travelled to digital platforms, where short-form videos and social media clips can introduce his humour to audiences who may not have followed his broadcasts.

In March 2025, Exchange4Media reported that he won the Jury Choice award for Best Comedy Influencer at the Impact Digital Influencer Awards. The publication traced his transition from radio to digital creation, highlighting his blend of humour and social messages.

The transition highlights how a radio personality can continue building an audience across formats. Naved’s familiar comic approach, mimicry, improvisation and an understanding of people’s reactions can be adapted for both on-air segments and digital content.

What ‘Prank You’ means for his next chapter

Radio City’s announcement brings Naved back into the radio spotlight with ‘Prank You’, a show built around the prank format that first made him widely recognisable. His digital work has expanded his reach beyond radio, while the new show returns his signature style to the airwaves.

Whether the move represents a complete and permanent break from Radio Mirchi remains unclear from the public information reviewed. For now, the confirmed development is his return to radio with ‘Prank You’, promoted by Radio City as an exclusive show.

For listeners who remember ‘Mirchi Murga’, the new programme offers another chance to hear Naved’s prank-call comedy, this time on Radio City.
