EXCLUSIVE: Bajwa And Bora Open Up About Coming Out To Their Families: “We Don’t Talk About It Anymore”
Creators Bajwa and Bora shared their coming-out experiences, speaking candidly about their families initial reactions to it.
How Did Bajwa Come Out To His Parents?
Bajwa revealed that he chose to come out only after he had finished college and started working. Bajwa and Bora both share experiences of having honest conversations with their families about their sexuality. Feeling ready, he sat down with his parents to have an honest conversation about his sexuality.
Recalling the moment, he shared:
“I told my parents, ‘I need to discuss something with you.’ When I told them, they were very shocked.”
According to Bajwa, his parents had many questions and struggled to understand what he was telling them. However, with time, the intensity of those conversations faded.
“They started asking me all those questions. But slowly, I think they just let it go, I guess. We don’t talk about it anymore.”
What Was Bora’s Experience Like?
Bora said the first person he came out to was his mother. He told her that he did not have feelings for women and that he was attracted to men.
While his mother was surprised by the revelation, the subject was never discussed again.
“She was shocked, but then we never talked about it.”
He later shared the same truth with his sister, hoping for understanding. However, her reaction was much more difficult for him.
According to Bora, she was deeply shocked and eventually stopped speaking to him.
“Then slowly, I told my sister, and she was very shocked, and she stopped talking to me.”
What Did Their Stories Highlight?
By sharing their personal experiences, Bajwa and Bora shed light on the different ways families can respond when a loved one comes out. While both initially faced shock and silence, their stories reflect the emotional complexity of these conversations and the challenges many LGBTQIA+ individuals continue to navigate within their own families.
