Instagram Edits Crosses 7 Million Downloads in First Week, Beating CapCut

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has launched an app called Instagram Edits, designed specifically for video creation. The app helps users create content for Reels, Stories, and social posts directly. It comes with tools that make video editing easier, faster, and more professional, even for beginners. Instagram Edits crossed 7.1 million downloads in its first week, far outpacing CapCut’s early numbers.

A Grand Launch with Over 7 Million Installs

Instagram Edits made a powerful entry into the video editing world with 7.1 million downloads in just one week, far more than its competitor CapCut had during its launch. According to data from app analytics firm Appfigures, the app was downloaded:

  • 1.2 million times on iOS devices
  • 5.9 million times on Android devices

That’s more than 37 times higher than CapCut’s downloads during the same initial period. This shows that Meta used its wide network and strong social presence to instantly attract creators, especially those already active on Instagram.

Instagram Reels are a livelihood in India, especially among influencers, content creators, small business owners, and vloggers. Edits has become a quick favourite because:

  • It supports 4K video
  • It has no watermark
  • The app is ad-free
  • It provides easy-to-use tools
  • It has built-in analytics to track performance

All these features are making it easier for Indian creators to produce high-quality content from their phones without needing heavy software.

How Does It Compare to CapCut?

CapCut, owned by ByteDance (the makers of TikTok), has been a top choice for creators for a few years now. It launched in April 2020 and has been downloaded over 1.22 billion times globally, excluding China.

While Instagram Edits is still new, it has already reached a large audience. But there are a few things creators feel are still missing:

  • No ready-to-use templates
  • Fewer transition effects compared to CapCut

So, while the app is easy and fast, some users say it needs more creative tools to match CapCut’s full feature set.

What to Expect in the Future?

Instagram Edits may soon roll out extra features to match and beat the competition. There are also chances that:

  • A paid version could be introduced
  • Ads might be added in the future

For now, though, the app is completely free and focused on giving creators a smooth editing experience.

Instagram Edits is a Big Hit Already

With its powerful launch and creator-friendly features, the app is off to a great start in markets like India, where video content rules. Whether it can catch up to CapCut’s massive user base will depend on how fast Meta updates the app with more editing tools.
